Over-the-Counter Drugs and Medicines
Over-the-counter drugs and medicines qualify as reimbursable expenses if they (1) are primarily for medical care, (2) are legally procured, and (3) are generally accepted as medicines or drugs. As of January 1, 2011, OTC drugs and medicines will also require a prescription from your doctor to qualify for reimbursement.
Over-the-counter items that are for cosmetic purposes, or items that relate primarily to general health (such as vitamins) are generally not reimbursable. In certain circumstances, such items may be reimbursable with a specific recommendation or statement from a physician that the item is intended specifically to treat an existing medical disease, condition, or illness.
